Adrenal Insufficiency
The adrenal glands are small organs located on top of each kidney that make hormones. These hormones do many things, including keeping blood sugar levels and blood pressure normal. In a child with adrenal insufficiency, the adrenal glands do not work correctly, causing hormonal imbalance.
Symptoms of adrenal insufficiency include:
- Fatigue
- Weight loss or gain
- Feeling dizzy when standing up
- Craving salt or sugar
- Muscle or joint pain
Conventional treatment of severe adrenal insufficiency (Addison’s disease) is hormone medications to replace the hormones that are missing in the body.
“Dr. Sue’s comprehensive approach pieced together the pieces of the puzzle for me that I couldn’t between our pediatrician and lots of reading! The testing she did made sense and the results helped me better understand my son’s health needs.” – Carly Elia
